Macaranga costulata Pax & K.Hoffm. Small trees up to ca. 25 m tall and 25 cm dbh, reproductive from 2 m tall and 2 cm dbh. Twigs solid, usually hairy. Stipules triangular to ovate, usually semi-persistent, 2-12 mm long by 1.5-3 mm wide. Petioles glabrous to hairy, up to 10 cm long. Leaves alternate, ovate, peltate or not, 7-20.5 cm long by 2.5-12 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.3-3.4; secondary veins 9-17, usually not ending in the margin; leaf base not to slightly cordate, peltate margin length (when present) 0.1-0.6 mm; leaf upper surface glabrous, with 2-4 basal nectary glands directly next to petiole insertion; leaf lower surface glabrous to hairy, densely gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with entire margin. Pistillate inflorescences branched; fruits 2-3 mm wide, 2-locular, completely covered with yellow glands. Ecology: Collected up to ca. 1700 m altitude. In primary and secondary forests. Distribution: Endemic to Borneo, where it has been collected throughout the island.
